Today I managed to sleep until 1pm, maybe because it was raining all morning or maybe it was because I had a hard time sleeping at night due to my hostel roommate’s horrendous 40dB non-stop snoring. I took it as a sign that the Universe is telling me not to be a cheap ass and get a hotel but hotels are pretty boring (and expensive).
First things first I needed to eat and stopped by an interesting little restaurant called Аморе Вилладжио (located here) that is literally an old soviet apartment with two rooms, kitchen and restrooms. Felt more like visiting my babushka than a restaurant. The food was pretty good but not as good as my babushka’s!
After a light lunch/dinner I took a tram to an art gallery I wanted to visit which currently has Fyodor Konyukhov’s artworks on display. Fyodor is a traveler, adventurer, a certified badass and a huge inspiration. The time was already past 6pm and I only had few hours to roam around the gallery.
I really enjoyed some of Fyodor’s illustrations to Lao Tzu’s Tao Te Ching, as a big fan of those teachings it was nice to see even though the illustrations themselves are fairly simple:
The exhibition had some interactive elements with Fyodor’s audio recordings which were pretty fun to explore although I wish there was more to see.
The gallery had a bunch of other spaces with different artworks and I spent another hour roaming around and snapping pictures. There was a pretty dark eccentric room with a coffin inside, a room with art of a guy that paints while breakdancing (I’m not kidding), a room with paintings of a guy that owns the gallery which can be bought (I got one for 100 roubles which is crazy considering how awesome it is, see below) and few other rooms with different artworks plus a room with thosands of love letters. I don’t have much time to sort and caption the photos as it’s my last days in Russia so I’m just going to dump all photos here in case anyone wants to see them:
After exploring the gallery I went to catch the sunset and then returned to my hostel to rest and recharge.
